Brains, ambition, and good study habits alone will not get a Belizean child into secondary school. It also requires, on average, over $675 USD per student per year for fees, books and uniforms. This is a formidable financial barrier to many Belizean families.
The Full Basket Belize Scholars Program identifies bright Belizean youth in need and provides financial assistance to help them pursue their ambitions. In the past nine years, your donations have enabled FBB to provide scholarships to over 120 needy Belizean students. Your support to the FBB Scholars Program is making a meaningful investment in the future of Belize.
How It All Works
In January we solicit Belizean secondary schools to become what we call “participating schools.” These schools agree to help us identify future Form II, III, and IV students who might be worthy recipients of our Full Basket Belize scholarships. In addition, the schools agree to send us periodic student grade reports, disperse the students’ scholarship monies, and submit year-end financial reports detailing how the funds were spent.
In February we ask our participating schools to identify at most five of their most deserving students to complete the Full Basket Belize scholarship applications. These students must be entering Forms II, III, or IV in the upcoming academic year. The applications ask the students to supply basic demographic data and answer several essay questions. The applications, along with grade transcripts and adult teacher recommendations, must be returned to us no later than March 22.
All application materials are read by a committee of Full Basket Belize board members and other volunteers. Winners are announced in late April. Funds are dispersed to the students’ schools only after confirmation forms and contracts are received. Each student must maintain a good attendance record and at least a 3.0 grade point average to retain his or her scholarship. Students who have previously received a Full Basket Belize scholarship and are in good standing are eligible to apply for renewal scholarships.
Full Basket Belize scholarships pay for tuition, fees, books, and uniforms for these students. Without scholarship funding, these promising scholars would not be able to attend high school. They sincerely appreciate the support that our organization makes possible through your generous donations. We -- and they – sincerely thank you!!
Please help us to continue to provide this support. Your tax-deductible donations are the lifeblood of the Full Basket Belize (FBB) Scholarship Program. Simply put, the more FBB collects in donations, the more students we are able to help. And since FBB is completely run by volunteers, every cent possible goes directly to the students. Donate to FBB online with your credit card (DONATE button at the upper left) or send a check to Full Basket Belize, PO Box 29021, Portland OR 97296 USA. Thanks!
