These FBB Scholars represent a handful of the 600+ scholarships awarded since 2005. The scholarship program continues to grow each year, thanks to generous donor support, and was expanded in 2025 to include 6th Form scholarships [Junior College].
How our Scholars Program Works
We partner directly with Belizean secondary schools (click here to see the list) to identify and support students in financial need. Our goal is to ensure that hardworking students can focus on their education, not their tuition.
1. Building Partnerships (Early Year)
We invite secondary schools to become Partner Schools. These schools help us identify eligible students, manage fund disbursements, and provide academic progress reports.
2. The Application Phase (February)
Deserving students entering Forms II, III, or IV are invited by their schools to apply. Applications require: official grade transcripts, teacher recommendations, and submission by the annual spring deadline.
3. Selection & Awards (June)
FBB Scholars are announced in June. Once contracts are signed, funds are sent directly to the partner schools to cover educational costs.
4. Maintaining the Scholarship
To stay in the program, FBB Scholars must commit to excellence by:
- Maintaining a 3.0 (80%) GPA or higher.
- Upholding excellent attendance.
- Note: Scholars in good standing are eligible to apply for renewal each year.

How many scholarships has FBB awarded over the past 20 years?
Since 2005, generous donations have allowed FBB to provide over 600 scholarships to deserving Belizean high school students who otherwise would not have the financial means to attend school.
What does a FBB scholarship cover?
The scholarship is comprehensive, covering tuition and fees, required textbooks and supplies, and school uniforms.
Who is eligible to apply for a FBB scholarship?
Scholarships are available to Belizean students who will enter Form II, III, or IV in the upcoming academic year.
How do I apply for a FBB scholarship?
FBB works with “partner schools” to identify deserving students. In February, these schools select students to complete the FBB scholarship application. Completed applications—including grade transcripts and teacher recommendations—must be submitted by the deadline specified on the form.
Can I renew my FBB scholarship?
Yes. Students who have previously received an FBB scholarship and remain in good standing are eligible to apply for a renewal scholarship.
What are the academic requirements to keep the scholarship?
To receive and retain their funding, scholars must:

How does a school become a “partner school”?
Schools are invited to become partners early in the year. Partner schools agree to identify students in need, disperse scholarship funds, and provide periodic grade reports and year-end financial reports.
When are funds released to the schools?
Funds are dispersed to the partner schools only after FBB receives signed confirmation forms and contracts from the school, student, and parent/guardian.
What is the new 6th Form Scholarship program?
The Shawn Hunton Memorial Scholarship was established to continue supporting Full Basket Belize (FBB) scholars as they enter 6th form. The scholarship honors the memory of Shawn Hunton, the son of former FBB Board member Jane Hasenmueller.
Who is eligible to apply for the 6th Form Scholarship program?
This scholarship is intended for FBB Scholar graduates who maintained a 3.3 GPA and plan to pursue higher education. Applicants must demonstrate leadership and the value of their expected degree to the community.
